LA Lilies

LA Lilies
The inspiration were the real flowers themselves - every day I watched a bunch of lilies opening up to the daylight. This intricate floral drawing captures the organic, fluid energy of the dense cluster of lilies. The work is executed in coffee-pigment therefore the monochromatic palette of sepia tones - I develop my own Chinese ink-like essence from espresso / coffee waste. I draw with a spoon, a pencil and brushes which I dip in the essence: the piece balances precise, expressive line work with soft, spontaneous washes. I love exploring how minimal materials can create rich depth. I combine raw ink splatters with carefully controlled line work, letting the sepia tones evoke a sense of vintage warmth and memory. The flowing contours create a dynamic, rhythmic composition that moves away from traditional botanical illustration into emotional expressionism. This piece balances between natural realism and calligraphic abstraction.
